Patients from abroad
Abroad patients protocol
If you do not live in Guatemala and want to perform an IVF at Clinica Santa Maria, please consider the following protocol for the procedure.
1. First appointment – Evaluation and ovarian stimulation protocol.
Time: two days in Guatemala will be enough to complete the screening and make the ovarian stimulation protocol.
Directions: Remember that the programming is according to your menstrual cycle. On the first appointment is important not to be menstruating.
Cost of the query Q. 300.00 or its equivalent in U.S. dollars at the exchange rate of the day.
Approximate cost of preparatory tests: Q. 2,400.00, or its equivalent in U.S. dollars at the exchange rate of the day.
If any disease is diagnosed at these examinations, the treatment has an additional cost.
Cost of treatment: 50% of the cost of In Vitro.
In this first appointment you will have an interview with the specialist, you will be asked some questions about your medical history. Then it will be performed a physical exam, which includes an ultrasound.
The preparatory tests will be made and ideally, It will be performed a semen analysis to your husband (for this must have 3 to 5 days of abstinence).
If you have laboratory results or medical informs, it would be ideal to bring it to the query.
Ovarian stimulation protocol
If the initial evaluation is favorable and there is no problem to perform the IVF, an ovarian stimulation protocol will be designed for you and the specialist will give you instructions to initiate treatment at home.
Because the medicine needed for the treatment is already included in the budget, and you will take them home on the first date, you must pay 50% of the total value of the IVF at the first appointment and 50% when returning on your second appointment in Guatemala.
2. Second Date – Oocytes retrieval and embryo transfer.
Time: It will be enough to stay in Guatemala for 10 to 12 days to monitor the ovarian stimulation adjust the hormones doses and perform oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer.
You will have an appointment on day 8 of your cycle to start the ecographic monitoring, adjust the doses of gonadotropins, set the aspiration date (approximately on day 13 or 14 of cycle), and the transfer of embryos.
You should rest the following three days after the transfer, then you will return home and take a pregnancy test 14 days after the transfer.
Schedule
The total treatment takes about a month and a half since the beginning of the preparation to the pregnancy test.
The presence of your husband is only required on the day of oocyte aspiration, i.e. for 1 day, on the second visit, as this depends on the day you are ready, we recommend that your husband take at least 3 days to stay in Guatemala.
If he is unable to travel, the other option is to freeze the semen, and have it ready at any moment (extra fee applies).
