Fertility Test for Men
In the case of the male there is also a decline in fertility with age, however not as marked as in women.
We suggest the study in cases of:
- History of undescended testicles at birth.
- History of mumps, particularly when complicated by “swelling” of the testicles (orchitis)
- History of sexual dysfunction (impotence, premature ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation)
- Exposure to previous partner (frequent sexual intercourse without protection) and pregnancy did not occur
- History of genital infections, especially sexually transmitted diseases.
- History of chemotherapy or radiotherapy for cancer
- Suspicion of being infertile
The assessment of fertility in men involves the analysis of one or two samples of the semen under the microscope.
To perform a semen analysis you should:
- Abstain from sexual intercourse or masturbation for a period of 3 to 5 days.
- Program your appointment
- Collect the sample by masturbation into a sterile container (provided by the clinic).
- If the sample is collected at home, you should not take more than 1 hour to bring it to the clinic, keeping the container at a warm temperature (you can put it in your pants pocket, shirt or jacket).
The Fertility Test in men consists in:
1. Interview with the specialist
You will have an interview with a reproductive medicine specialist, who will make you some questions to assess potential causes of infertility.
2. Sperm Analysis *
2 complete sperm analysis will be made with 1 month apart for a sperm count, morphology and mobility assessment.
3. Result Analysis
After having the results of the analysis, we will schedule a second appointment in which the specialist will explain you:
- Your fertility potential
- General recommendations
- How to preserve your fertility for the future
- Treatment options if applicable
