Fertility Test for Women
In women is recommended in the following cases:
- You have over 30 years and it is not in your plans to become pregnant in the near future.
- You are suffering from menstrual irregularity (delays or short cycles).
- You are presenting painful menstruation, especially if it interferes with your normal life.
- You have history of previous abdominal or pelvic surgery (appendicitis, especially if it was perforated, ovary surgery, etc.).
- You have history of genital infections, especially sexually transmitted diseases.
- If there has been previous pregnancy exposure, i.e. unprotected sex frequently and pregnancy has not happened.
- You have relatives who have had endometriosis.
- Suspicion of being infertile.
The fertility test in women consist in:
1. Interview with the specialist
You will have an interview with a reproductive medicine specialist, who will ask you some questions about your menstrual history, gynecological history, contraceptive use, previous surgeries, family history, allergies, etc.
2. Pelvic ultrasound
This study will allow the specialist to assess your reproductive organs, uterus and ovaries.
3. Laboratory Tests
Some hormones will be evaluated through a blood sample, usually made on the 3rd. or 4th. day of your menstrual cycle.
4. Supplementary examinations *
These are made in some special cases where the medical history, initial examination and ultrasound suggest the presence of pathology.
5. Result Analysis
After having the results of the analysis, which depends on the menstrual cycle, we will schedule a second appointment in which the specialist will explain:
- Your fertility potential
- Recommendations for a future pregnancy
- How to preserve your fertility
- Treatment options if applicable

- The female fertility begins to decline at age 25.
- The fertility rate (probability of getting pregnant for each month of exposure) in women 35 years or more, is half that in women younger than 25.
- The fertility rate decreases from about 25% per cycle in the first months of exposure to 8% per cycle after 1 year of exposure.
- The fertility rate in women at 40 years is about 4% per cycle.
